The Houston International Sports Film Festival Screenwriting Championship accepts shorts, pilots and feature screenplays that involve any sports setting, athlete or competitive event and works to drive more attention to sports stories in Hollywood by recognizing the unsung writers of these inspiring scripts.

TYPE OF SCRIPTS ACCEPTED

Feature-lengthFeatures: 75 to 150 pages
Scripts 121 to 151 pages are accepted, but will be assessed a $1 per page overage.
Scripts over 150 pages will not be accepted.
ShortShorts: 5 to 35 pages
Teleplay PilotThirty minute pilots: Maximum page count of 35.
One Hour pilots: Maximum page count of 65.

Title PageContact info may be included on the cover page of the screenplay, however it is not required.

All writers must be credited on title page.
Resubmissions / Corrected PagesSubstitutions of either corrected pages or new drafts of the entered material will be allowed for a limited time with resubmission through Event Horizon Films.
CopyrightRecommended, but not required.
WGA RegistrationRecommended, but not required.

Page LengthFeatures: 75 to 150 pages

Age of ScriptThere are no requirements as to when the material was written.
AdaptationsAdaptations are ineligible unless the underlying rights are owned by the writer or the work is in the public domain.
RightsAll submitted material must be original, and all rights must be wholly owned by the writer(s). Screenplay and intellectual property must be wholly owned and submitted by the writer(s).

All ownership and rights to the scripts submitted to this contest remains with the original rights holders.

Competition Entry Restrictions
All material submitted to other competitions or contests are eligible for this contest.

However, a writer who has earned more than $50,000 (or equivalent currency) from professional writing services for film or TV in the preceding year is not eligible. (Contest winnings not included.)


Writer Eligibility Requirements

Number of Scripts Eligible for SubmissionThere is no limit to the number of projects an entrant may submit.
Multiple WritersMaterial must be submitted by the writer. Material written by writing teams must be submitted by one of the writers, with consent of the other(s). All writers must be credited on title page.
Age of WriterAll writers must be at least 18 years of age.
EarningsA writer who has earned more than $50,000 (or equivalent currency) from professional writing services for film or TV in the preceding year is not eligible. (Contest winnings not included.)
International SubmissionsInternational submissions are accepted. However, the material submitted must be in English (occasional dialogue in other languages is acceptable, if subtitle translation is provided).

Purchase OpportunityOptional feedback from a professional reader may be requested at the time of entry. Requests for feedback after an entry is submitted will not be accepted.
